Abigail Adams was the first First Lady to be both the wife and a mother of a president. Her son, John Quincy Adams, became the sixth president of the United States. Unfortunately, Abigail did not live to see him became president. She died of yellow fever two weeks before her 75th birthday.
Her husband, John Adams, lived another eight years and did get to see his son elected president. He died on July 4, 1826, the same day as his friend Thomas Jefferson.
