FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA VISITS JAY LENO TONIGHT

First Lady Michelle Obama is in Los Angeles for the next few days and tonight will visit with Jay Leno on his late night show.  The First Lady will talk about her initiative Let's Move  to combat childhood obesity and no doubt quiz Jay Leno on why he does not eat his vegetables.  He has reportedly said that he has not touched a vegetable in 40 years.  Hmmm.  Mrs. Obama will also make appearances on the Rachel Ray show on February 1 and the Ellen DeGeneres show on February 2.  The appearance with Rachel Ray was taped when Ms. Ray came to Washington, DC last week to join Mrs. Obama in an appearance at a local elementary school to unveil new nutritional changes to school lunches.

Today at 5:30 p.m. if you tune into these sources WhiteHouse.gov/live, or White House Google+ page you will be able to see the live interview with President Obama from the White House where he will answer question submitted from people around the U.S.  More than 133,000 questions were submitted and 1.6 million votes cast for the question people would like to hear the President address.  


  

FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA TO ANNOUNCE PLAN TO AID MILITARY FAMILY CAREGIVERS

One of the initiatives launched by First Lady Michelle Obama during the past year is Joining Forces to aid military families.  Today the First Lady, along with Labor Secretary Hilda Solis, plans an announcement whereby members of military families could take up to 12 weeks of leave to care for an injured service member or provide assistance for a service member's immediate deployment without fear of the caregivers losing their jobs.  

BEYONCE DESIGNS T-SHIRT FOR OBAMA'S RE-ELECTION CAMPAIGN

Apparently Beyonce found some time before the birth of her baby to design a T-shirt for President Obama's 2012 re-election campaign.  It will be available for sale  February 7 but can be pre-ordered now at runway to win.  The T-shirt carries these phrases:  "words do inspire", "yes, we can" and "transform a nation together."  Some of First Lady Michelle Obama's favorite fashion designers, including Jason Wu, Rachel Roy, and Tracy Reese, have also designed items for sale.  Beyonce's T-shirt sells for $45 and proceeds from the T-shirt and other items will go the Obama Victory Fund.

FIRST LADY MICHELLE OBAMA TAKES HEALTH AND WELLNESS CAMPAIGN TO SUPERMARKET

First Lady Michelle Obama will not be shopping for groceries today as she travels to Tampa, Florida where she will make an appearance at the National Supermarket.  She is there to promote her health and wellness campaign as well as the U.S. Department of Agriculture's My Plate, a tool to help people in making healthy food choices.  Mrs. Obama will announce a partnership with Goya Foods, the largest hispanic-owned food company in the country.  

CELEBRITY CHEF RACHEL RAY JOINS MICHELLE OBAMA TODAY AT PARKLAWN SCHOOL TO ANNOUNCE A REVAMP OF SCHOOL LUNCHES

Celebrity Chef Rachel Ray  joins First Lady Michelle Obama and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Secretary Tom Vilsack at Parklawn Elementary School in Fairfax County, Virginia to announce changes to school lunches.  The First Lady has initiated the Let's Move campaign to reduce childhood obesity and the changes taking effect through the USDA are meant to provide more nutrional value in the lunches, with emphasis on less sodium, more fruits, vegestables and grains.  Even pizzas will not escape an overhaul and will be made with healthier ingredients.  The USDA oversees the National School lunch program which provides federal assistance to public and non-profit private schools.The last time changes were made to school lunches happened 15 years ago.  The First Lady will join the kids for lunch.
