It is summer and a time to take a look at the all the White House gardens in bloom. Let's start with First Lady Michelle Obama's kitchen garden, which offers tours. It is the first kitchen garden at the White House since World War II and includes fruits, herbs and vegetables, some from seeds supplied by Thomas Jefferson's gardens at Monticello. One-third of what is grown is shared with a homeless shelter and the rest is utilized by White House chefs for official functions and the First Family's meals. Tours of the kitchen garden are available for school and community groups with an interest in gardening. Tour information can be found here.
