Fashion alert: Vanity Fair puts President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama on its list of Best-Dressed Couples. This marks the fifth time the First Lady has appeared on the list and the President's second.
A young Irish fashion designer was very surprised to receive a letter from First Lady Michelle Obama last week. In an article in the Independent.ie , Claire O'Connor gives an account of how she forwarded two dresses to the American Embassy in advance of the First Lady and President Obama's trip to Ireland in May. Ms. O'Connor admits she was shocked to receive a reply because she did not put a return address on the package she sent. In the letter, Mrs. Obama thanked Claire "for her generous gift" and said how much she appreciated her thoughtfulness. Ms O'Connor notes that the letter was signed by the First Lady and goes on to say: "Obviously, as regards fashion designers, Michelle is the one person in the world every designer wants to be acknowledged by." One of the things First Lady Michelle Obama has remarked upon since taking up residence in the White House is that it has gotten a lot harder to do ordinary things that she used to do without being noticed. An example she gave was shopping at Target. Well, if she didn't manage to shop at Target, somebody did it for her because when the First Lady went to Ocean Naval Air Station on Thursday to meet with military families she wore a geometric print dress from a fashion line featured at Target.
