One cannot go anywhere nowadays without hearing the hit single "Moves Like Jagger" by Maroon 5. Mick Jagger, himself, will be at the White House to perform as part of a celebration of the blues for Black History Month next Tuesday, February 21. Other performers included in the celebration, which President Obama and Mrs. Obama will attend, are B.B. King, Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy and Keb Mo. The show will stream live at www.whitehouse.gov/live and will be broadcast on PBS stations beginning February 27
First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy spearheaded the effort to restore the White House with many of its original furnishings and on Valentine's Day 1962 she let the television cameras into the White House for a tour. The program won an Emmy award. The John F. Kennedy Library on February 15 will host a forum in observance of the 50th anniversary of the tour with a discussion and screening with White House curator William Allman. First Lady Michelle Obama is observing the second anniversary of her initiative, Let's Move, to combat childhood obesity and encourage healthier eating and fitness. She will be taking that message on the road to four states this week to promote her message but she is also conveying it in a video segment that was filmed at the White House with Late Night host Jimmy Fallon. One of the fitness activities the First Lady challenged Fallon to undertake was climbing stairs in the White House. How many stairs?? Tune in to Late Night tomorrow to find out.
First Lady Michelle Obama is in Los Angeles for the next few days and tonight will visit with Jay Leno on his late night show. The First Lady will talk about her initiative Let's Move to combat childhood obesity and no doubt quiz Jay Leno on why he does not eat his vegetables. He has reportedly said that he has not touched a vegetable in 40 years. Hmmm. Mrs. Obama will also make appearances on the Rachel Ray show on February 1 and the Ellen DeGeneres show on February 2. The appearance with Rachel Ray was taped when Ms. Ray came to Washington, DC last week to join Mrs. Obama in an appearance at a local elementary school to unveil new nutritional changes to school lunches.
